Physical Education Curriculum


PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade:

 

GOALS

The student will:

  1. recognize and participate in a variety of physical activities using manipulative skills
  2. recognize and participate in locomotor and non-locomotor skills for a variety of physical activities
  3. express feelings about the benefits that result from regular participation in physical activity.
  4. show dynamic  balance
  5. create rhythmic movement
  6. explain the benefits of safe play and follow safety rules
  7. demonstrate personal responsibility by listening and following directions
  8. demonstrate body awareness and control by keeping within own personal space
  9. demonstrate fair and honest game-play
  10. display respect for all individual and property

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade

                                             

GOALS                                                         

The student will:

  1. demonstrate use of manipulative skills within a variety of physical activities and/or sports
  2. demonstrate use of various locomotor and non-locomotor skills in a variety of physical    activities and/or sports
  3. recognize and demonstrate recreational activities, individual and team sports
  4. participate in self expression through dance
  5. set goals for improvement  comparing results of previous fitness testing to current performance
  6. recognize  the benefits of moderate aerobic activity to achieve and maintain physical fitness
  7. using technology when appropriate
  8. identify physical activities that can be pursued in the community
  9. apply safety rules and procedures
  10. demonstrate knowledge of rules and apply strategies for specific for recreational, individual, and team sports
  11. independently demonstrate on task, cooperative behavior after receiving directions
  12. demonstrate fair and honest game-play through problem solving, communication and participation

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Sixth Grade, Seventh Grade, Eighth Grade

 

GOALS

The student will:

  1. demonstrate manipulative skills in game situations using accuracy and appropriate velocity
  2. demonstrate developing cardiovascular fitness (i.e. including cardio-endurance
  3. demonstrate developing muscle endurance, strength and flexibility
  4. demonstrate  agility, coordination, balance, power and speed
  5. recognize  the components of health-related fitness (i.e. endurance and flexibility)
  6. recognize and demonstrate the components of motor skill-related fitness (i.e. agility and coordination)
  7. demonstrates memory of dance steps
  8. explain the importance of having a healthy diet
  9. evaluate one’s own personal fitness using technology when appropriate
  10. recognize that maintaining a level of physical fitness is a lifelong process which is essential to a positive state of well being
  11. demonstrate knowledge of  terminology, scoring, and etiquette of a variety of activities, sports and games
  12. explain and demonstrate concept of sportsmanship
  13. explain and demonstrate leadership qualities
