Prayer to St. Michael

The events in Ferguson present a prime opportunity for us to seek the intercession and assistance of Saint Michael and the entire heavenly host as we strive to bring the forgiveness, mercy, and love of Christ to those impacted by the turmoil and tension.

Saint Michael Prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the
wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan
and all evil spirits who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen.

Although the prayer is no longer officially said at the end of Mass, Saint John Paul II, in his Regina Caeli Address recommended its use when he said:
"May prayer strengthen us for the spiritual battle that the Letter of the Ephesians speaks of: 'Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might' (Ephesians 6:10).  The Book of Revelation refers to this same battle, recalling before our eyes the image of St. Michael the Archangel (cf. Revelation 12:7).  Pope Leo XIII certainly had this picture in mind when, at the end of the last century, he brought in, throughout the Church, a special Prayer to St. Michael....Although this prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask everyone not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against the forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world."
